About project CLIF (APO)

Authors comment
Dear All,

My name is Olga Panina, I am an ENT-doctor, otosurgeon, research scientist at the Ear and Skull Base Pathologies Department of NRMC Otorhinolaryngology FMBA, Moscow, Russia. CLIF(APO) is a non-commercial project about tumors and other lesions of the ear and the lateral skull base. I have created the project during my PHD to attract the attention of society to problems of patients with different ear pathologies.

Project goals:
1. To increase the level of knowledge of specialists and patients about tumors of the internal auditory canal and cerebellopontine angle, petrous bone cholesteatoma and, in general, about pathologies of the ear and the lateral skull base;
2. To increase the detectability of ear diseases;
3. To popularize modern surgical approaches in management of various ear pathologies.

For patients: Unfortunately, in Russia and PostSoviet Union Countries many patients do not receive timely treatment because of not established diagnosis or misdiagnosis. Thus, a timely diagnostics and an adequate surgery could prevent life-threatening complications, sometimes restore the function of mimic muscles or preserve hearing.

For specialists: It is well known state that ear pathologies are considered to be the most complicated in the speciality of Otorhinolaryngology. However, even without performing otosurgeries, it is necessary for ENT-specialist to know the clinical picture, CT/MRI signs, general management and treatment options of various pathologies of temporal bone in order not to skip problem during a routine outpatient examination.

Dear colleagues! If you find a patient with vestibular schwannoma or any other difficult Ear diagnosis, do not delay the treatment process.

For consultation or getting a second opinion, you can fill out the contact form, through which you can attach CT/MRI files (zip the DICOM folder). We are opened to discussion.

On the pages of this project, I will add new materials on diagnostics and treatment of various ear pathologies, publish announcements of events, congresses and dissection courses on cadaveric material conducted under the guidance of prof. Hassan Diab.

I sincerely hope that the project will be useful and find it's readers.

Sincerely,
O.P.
